About
My name is Paul Kaspers. On this site I write about IT and society and share a few small tools I built for myself.
I work on software architecture and information design. What I want to build is broadly applicable and carefully put together, not solutions that fit only one client or one situation, but systems that hold up over years and that can be of use to others as well. When thinking about how something could be better I try not to fall back on automation straight away: the answer often lies somewhere else, in a process, an agreement, or a question that hadn't yet been asked. That's why I prefer to listen first to the people doing the work every day; that's where the useful ideas come from.
What I write here usually comes from that work, or from things I see happening around me in society. Sometimes a question that comes up in a project and turns out to be broader; sometimes something in the news that I want to think through.
